Lort Smith Animal Hospital
Lort Smith Animal Hospital is the largest not for profit animal hospital in Australia and has been operating in North Melbourne since 1927.
Lort Smith provides high quality veterinary care at a reduced cost for the pets of people in need as well as injured, surrendered and abandoned pets that have no-one to care for them.
Our dog Max was adopted from the shelter at Lort Smith back in 2007. He had been found as a stray at only 15 weeks of age and was timid and frightened around people.
He has blossomed into a happy, lovable boy in our home and we have Lort Smith to thank for rescuing him and providing us with the opportunity to make him a much treasured family member.

Pets Haven Animal Shelter
Pets Haven Animal Shelter is a facility that re – homes orphan cats, kittens, dogs and puppies who would otherwise have no future. We do not euthanise animals for economic reasons. The only time an animal will be euthanised is if they have an aggressive temperament (with no chance of rehabilitation) or the animal is extremely unwell and the prognosis is not favourable.
Our animals are rescued from death row pounds and from the community. Animals that do not require rehabilitation are kept at our shelter whilst waiting to be adopted into new homes.
Animals that require rehabililitation are placed into approved foster homes, with all medical and alike expenses paid for by Pets Haven. Once the animal has been cared for and recovered it gets placed up for adoption.
All animals in our care are vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed. Every animal is temperament tested prior to arrival to the shelter.
Pets Haven is mostly run by volunteers who love animals. Our volunteers work hard in caring and re homing the animals that come into our care. To find out more about Pets Haven please go to our website www.petshaven.com.au.
First option is adoption!
RSPCA – Victoria
It was a joyful day when Teabag found her new family at an RSPCA Adoption Centre. As soon as they met, Teabag placed her little head into their hands and they knew she was the one!
Teabag settled into her new home really well. She has a great life and having loads of fun with her fur brother Harry, who was also adopted fromRSPCA Burwood East. Teabag loves walks, especially to the beach where she can play tag with the seagulls in the water, under Harry’s supervision, of course!
Harry originally arrived at the shelter as a stray. He is a very playful boy and has taught Teabag how to have lots of fun playing tug-o-war and ‘catch me if you can’! The duo love playing with stuffed toys and barking a big ‘hello’ to the postman. Harry has become the ‘family clown’ and provides plenty of laughs. He is an affectionate boy and loves sitting on your lap for pats and cuddles.
Harry and Teabag are now a team and love entertaining each other. One of Harry’s best tricks is bouncing around like a kangaroo, pleasing just about everyone.
